Hic et Nunc — 1st AMA
So after some time to reflect upon Yesterday’s AMA with Rafael, I’ve come to the conclusion that Hic et Nunc is in great hands with “The Founder” Rafael. That statement may seem startling to a lot of people that attended the AMA Yesterday and have been observing the events that have happened over the past couple few weeks. Please allow me to elaborate…
I’m not privy to all the details of the past few weeks but I have been involved in many discussions. I have been fortunate to be a part of discussions where Rafael has outlined his thoughts on a larger HEN eco-system. It was absolutely fascinating, inspiring, and revolutionary. Always keep in mind that Rafael’s actions, philosophy, and works are revolutionary. Like others that have made a great contribution to the masses in art & media, they “Think Different”
Many of the great revolutionaries in the arts refused to spell out the details of their work and left it to each individual’s own interpretation. Hic et Nunc is a discovery process and you will find the gamification of decentralization in Rafael’s work. (discovery gamification)
In regards to Eco-system Integration I don’t believe we have seen any models for a joint venture with Hic et Nunc to date that follow an acceptable rollout plan.
Hic Et Nunc is in its infancy. Structure, form and supporting mechanisms need to develop at a pace that matches Rafael as he continuously puts out fires. I do not believe Rafael wants to distance the community but just slow down certain development streams. In terms of everything else that’s not absolutely vital we are far away from development plans such as application documentation, integration outline, roadmaps with deadlines, voting, code discovery, beta testing, and then a final implementation plan.
He still wants to know what we all want developed. He loves development however he is cautious and wary of everyone dictating to him what should be done. All forms of voting on features and governance needs to allow Rafael to have the final say now and we shouldn’t pretend otherwise. Rafael is a pragmatic scientist, that may require a certain level of patient collaboration from those of us interested in contributing. Surprises and forking code are the exact opposite of all of his philosophies, these are my opinions and I believe them to be 100% true.
I do believe we have witnessed attempts to grow the ecosystem in a manner that’s hasn’t stepped through the actions outlined above, from individuals that may have had good intentions. We DO need these teams to continue their efforts and work with the community to develop a strategy to roll out features and improvements. We can “circle the wagons” coming together to build a better future for Hic et Nunc.
“Setting Precedent” is how we are going to grow the ecosystem. This starts with conversations with Rafael, that migrated into documentation, then documentation migrates into code that code migrates into testing. And then finally that testing of the code integrates into a launch. And I believe that’s the acceptable and respectful way forward. When experimenting it’s not recommended to skip steps regardless if their are steps to be skipped.
Compensation is always an extremely important part of the equation — please consider having that discussion prior to dedicating your time and effort. This will help avoid miscommunication.
I hope that these statements don’t offend anyone, that wasn’t the intention, I love all the projects that are going forward, but I think that we need to take a step back and consider it again from Rafael’s perceptive. If you were in his shoes, you would want at least some of these procedures in place? Thank you for your time. I look forward to engaging with everybody in this community.
Sincerely, Mitch & Murray
